VTah Part VII — The Merriest Snow on Earth! (OR: ‘Twas The Night Before Deepness)

By:  Greg
December 24, 2012

‘Twas the night before deepness, and all through the mounts,
not a creature was stirring, not even a moose.
The ski-socks were drying, by the wood-stove with care,
In the hopes that Ullr bringer-o’-upslope soon would be there.

The powder was nestled all snug in its glades,
while visions of face-shots danced in our heads.
And Hutz in his ‘kerchief, and I in my cap,
settled our brains for a short winter’s nap.

The next morning we arose to that distinctive patter
of snow on a window, and a snowpack now distinctively fatter.
Up the access-road-and-skin-track we flew like a flash,
atop which we tore off our skins like one throws up a sash.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow
gave the lustre of mid-day to schusses below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear
but a powder-snow slayer, with a pow-covered beard.

He was a little old driver, so lively and quick,
I knew in a moment it must be Jake.
More rapid than eagles, his schuss he made,
and he whistled, and shouted, enjoying his powder tirade.

And then, in a twinkling, I thought of a schuss
I was sure was full of snow begging-to-be schussed.
And so we skinned out and bushwacked to give it a look,
as you can see the payoff was worth every hour it took.
worth every hour it took

The schuss was chubby and plump, a right jolly old shelf,
we laughed when we saw it, in spite of ourself!
A wink of my eye and a twist of my head,
“Look a bald eagle!” I shouted as I descended.
look a bald eagle!

look a bald eagle!

Glad to see ol’ saint nick upgraded from those moody reindeer to an AT setup… Makes for much more efficient delivery of “the goods”! Merry schussing indeed!

No winter outlook this year. Half-hearted weather reporting in general. And we’re within hours of a massive dump with more interesting weather soon to follow. Yet not a peep from FIS. Looks like you guys aren’t really in the weather business any more. ???

Merry Christmas to you too Dave. Lionel was enjoying time off for the holiday, but did toss several quick updates up on his twitter feed and also on FIS’ Facebook Page: http://www.facebook.com/FamousInternetSkiers

      Sorry if you’ve been inconvenienced.

Great stuff as usual guys; trying to fight back grins at the desk. I do wish you’d share the general location of some of these ridiculous pow havens you’re skiing… in hopes that we might catch your seconds :)

well, unfortunately, I won’t give you an X-marks the spot description, but it’s somewhere in the backcountry in northern Vermont… I’d be slayed if I gave up the location :/

Well Well Well. It was WELL done as usual. SUPER great pics. VTah is great if ya know where to grab it.(As you guys do) Did some sneaking around this past weekend. Found an old stash that looks like it has been reborn. Got bored with this place a few years ago. Went up on the Banforth Ridge trail up to CHp. And tried some off trail sneaking around. Did not get much of a ski out of it, due to my knee being a little unstable. But the place has renewed it’s possibilities. Love the Christmas jingle. DO hope you and your family had a great holiday season. NOW IT’S TIME TO GET TO WORK. And do that Voodoo that you do so well. :) Happy New Year!
